The Stress Management and Resilience Training workshop is designed to help identify, reduce and manage the risk of workplace stress and improve employee resilience and wellbeing. The workshop encourages and promotes early identification of stress and uses intervention and prevention techniques, so vital for managing stressors at work. Participants will also be able to build their own personal Stress Resilience and Wellbeing profile, which is essential to on-going prevention.

Learning outcomes of the Stress Management and Resilience Training Workshop
Delegates will undertake some light pre-course work and that will form the opening session for this workshop. The emphasis is all about early identification of key stressors and triggers, enabling a fast proactive response towards potential problem areas.
There are four personal assessments for the group to undertake on a one day workshop, which will form part of their own Stress Management, Resilience and Wellbeing profile. It is essential that everyone understands their own key stressors and knows how to spot them and deal with them in the future. The workshop is nicely balanced with syndicate group work, individual tasks and a case study, all of which help towards learning positive and proactive stress resilience techniques.
Becoming more resilient
Resilient people possess a particular mindset and skills that help them respond to life’s challenges with confidence. So, what are the features of this mindset and what do resilient people have that reduces their vulnerability to stress and helps them to cope more productively?
One aspect is lifestyle management and all the elements that you would expect to find within, such as exercise, diet, work/life balance and sleep.

Rewrite your negative scripts
Do you find yourself saying or doing the same ineffective things over and over again? We can often become trapped, blindly following a prescribed script that does not allow for change or creativity in the face of stress and problems. But ultimately, we are the authors of our lives. We can move from less satisfying, less productive scripts, to ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving that foster a resilient mindset.
Choose a path to become stress resilient rather than stressed out
Research indicates that stress-resilient people view difficult situations as an expected part of life. When such situations arise, they interpret them as challenges to confront and learn from them rather than as stress to avoid. It’s almost as if you can view stressors in a different light, positive (rise to the challenge) Vs negative (let everything get you down).
The ability to communicate effectively is a key component of resilience and is closely linked to empathy. Effective communication includes an appreciation of how our verbal and non-verbal messages are perceived by others and our capacity to be an efficient active listener.

If you are to gain a resilient mindset, you must learn to accept yourself and others. Acceptance implies possessing realistic expectations and goals, recognising your strengths as well as vulnerabilities, and leading an authentic, balanced life in which your behaviours are congruent with your values and goals.

The ways in which we understand and respond to mistakes and failure are an integral part of a resilient mindset. When you make a mistake, what do you tell yourself? How do you react? Resilient people consider mistakes as experiences for learning and growth.
Learn to handle success and build islands of competence
Just as the manner in which we understand and respond to setbacks is an integral part of a resilient mindset, so too is the way we react to successes in our lives. Think about how you understand your achievements. Those who are resilient view their accomplishments as based upon their own resources and strengths.

If we abandon well-established diets and exercise, our health will suffer. The same principle is true when we consider the maintenance of a resilient lifestyle. Once you have developed the features associated with a resilient mindset and lifestyle, you cannot settle back and assume these qualities will be maintained on automatic pilot.
